Project #17

I made an unlined white linen head coif. All seams were finished by hand in either rolled hem or I flat felled them. The gryphons were placed on each side of the coif and were made in gold linen and appliqued on by whip stitching a black thread along its edges. They stand about six inches tall. The feathers and details were worked in gold and black floss using the back stitch. The attached strings are a 4 card tablet weave made from white mercerized cotton.

It was a "made to order" item for the recently crowned HE Douglas, Artemesia's newest Court Baron.

Project #16
Coronation garb for HRH Saige.

I worked a simple embroidery pattern along the cuffs and neckline of her gomlek. The fabric is very sheer cotton. The stitches used are the French knot, Laisy Daisy and then I couched gold metallic thread. The pattern is based off a documented Turkish design in her persona timeline.

Project #15

Embroidered gryphons with Artemesia's Crown and Wreath to be appliqued onto a linen fighting tunic for HRM Sean.

Gryphons were worked in chain stitch and back stitch on gold linen, then I applied WonderUnder then they were ironed on the black linen tunic, placed along the hemline facing each other.  HRM created the tunic and applied the gryphons to the tunic. I am hoping finished pictures come my way, but here are the gryphons before I handed them off to Sean. They are made from the same pattern we used for Coronation garb, only these are bigger.

I also made for this same tunic the Artemesian pile that is found on Kingdom devices. It is triangular in shape, with the Laurel leaves surrounding a crown. This was also worked on gold linen, using chain stitch and back stitch. It was applied by HRM on the chest of the tunic, so the point of the pile separates the gryphons slightly.

I need to make a correction to the previous post.

Projects #11 and #12 are HRM Nisa's underdress and cotehardie.
Projects #13 and #14 are HRM Sean's tunic and cotehardie.

Must be careful...this is part of my 50/50. Grin.

Projects #11 and #12: Royal blue undertunic/underdress with embroidery on the cuffs and applique on the front panels with an aluminum colored cotehardie with embroidery around neck, sleeves and bottom hems.

The cuffs of the blue under clothes was a double line outline worked in chain stitch with circles worked in stem stitch. I used a thread a shade darker than the color of the cotehardies.

The applique was worked by Lady Perwyr of Arrow's Flight. I wanted to show off her beautiful work and give her credit for a very nice job. Her efforts made this garb go over the top on the Coolness Factor. HRM Nisa had a wolf head sillouetted on a moon on her dress (part of her personal device), while HRM Sean had a pegasus worked on his tunic (part of his household device). Both were worked in the royal blue and aluminum fabric, and stitched with a blanket stitch in white for accent. Unfortunately, my pictures did not save. I will have to beg some from TRM and add them at a later time.

The outer cotehardies were also matching, working the same pattern used on the sleeves--double lines encasing circles. A very simple yet stunning combo. I only worked a single line of chain stitch on the sleeves as a subtle accent of blue. All stitching was worked in a matching royal blue. I forgot to take pictures of the ensemble in its finished glory before handing it off to TRM. I am sure there are pictures of them on FaceBook--they wore this set to closing court of Uprising. Out of all of the sets I worked for TRM, this was my favorite. I really am pleased with the colors and the embroidery pattern.

Project #10--Apron Dress

I decided Ray/Padruig can't have the only Mammen Man ensemble so I created this apron dress to wear when he wears his tunic.  The construction I used was two rectangles (front and back panels), sewn from waist to top edge only, leaving the sides open. It is based on apron dress found in Denmark--the same area the Mammen Man grave was located. I used a double herringbone stitch, blanket stitch and stem stitch for my accents and embroidery.

I did not want it exactly the same, so instead of embroidering the beasts and tree, I appliqued them. I worked a blanket stitch in white as the outline.

I also liked the acanthus vines, so they were added along the bottom. They were also appliqued and I used blue to work the blanket stitch for variety. The vines were stitched on a yellow panel added to the bottom of the dress. I made it this way for accent and color splash. The seam where the yellow and red meet has a line of pale orange stem stitch. The picture didn't pick it up well, but you can almost see the stem stitch along the seam. All colors used on Ray's tunic were then used on my apron dress.
